If the implant site is near the front of your mouth, we have a variety of temporary options such as bridges and transitional implants to get you through the healing phase. In some cases, the permanent tooth can even be placed onto the implant at the same time as surgery.
Yes! Your dental implant will feel, look and operate just like your natural teeth. You will be eating all the foods that you used to enjoy with your new, permanent tooth before you know it!
Most patients who have one or two implants placed can resume work in a day or two following the surgery. However, if you have had three or more implants placed at one time you may want to take at least two days off. Patients who have had a full arch of implants may need 4 or more days off from work.
In many instances a bone graft may be necessary at the time of removal of a tooth and/or implant placement. Every patient’s jawbone is different so our surgeons will determine whether you need a bone graft with you prior to your treatment. We highly recommend CBCT (Cone beam CT Scans) which are taken in our office to evaluate your bone prior to implant surgery.
We highly recommend a CBCT (Cone beam CT Scans) which are taken in our office to evaluate your bone prior to implant surgery. The radiation emitted from our CT scan is much lower than most CT scan units due to the cone beam technology. If you have a film from your dentist please bring that to our office or our staff will arrange for it to be emailed to us.
Traditionally, dental implants were placed and left under the gum tissue for three to four months. Then a second non-invasive surgical procedure with an incision in the gum tissue was performed to expose the implant with the placement of a healing collar/abutment. Now, most of the time our surgeons can perform this in one procedure. Hence, our oral surgeons, Sullivan, Aramphongphan, Awadallah, Bae or Zambetti will place the dental implant with the placement of the healing collar/abutment at the same visit. This eliminates one of those procedures so your implant surgery can be performed all at one time.
Traditionally, dental implants are surgically placed in our office and allowed to fuse to the jawbone (osseointegration) for 3 to 4 months prior to you see your dentist for the final teeth which are fixated to the dental implant. You have the option of wearing a temporary prosthesis (teeth) during this 3 to 4 month period while your implants are fusing to the jawbone. You never have to be without teeth during the implant process. Typically, you will see your general dentist 3 to 4 months after the surgical placement for the final teeth. There are only specific instances in which we may place implants and have teeth screwed into those implants the same day.
If you are missing many teeth, implant-supported dentures can give you a full arch of prosthetic teeth attached to just a few implants. This option is a great solution for those who need the number of teeth provided by a denture, but don’t want the hassle associated with it. You can also have a full arch of implants that are fixed (non-removable) which completely restores your chewing function and esthetics.
Dental implants have a success rate of up to 98% and the procedure has been around for decades, with continual improvements and discoveries made all along the way. The risks are very low, and closely resemble those of other minor surgical procedures (infection, injury to adjacent teeth, etc.)
Studies have shown that properly placed and well-cared-for dental implants can last as long as 25 years. Advanced technology and experience enable us to give you the very best shot at keeping yours for life!
Permanent restorations are typically placed by your general dentist three to four months after dental implant placement in our office. During these 3 to 4 months (osseointegration) period you can have a temporary prosthesis (teeth) so you never have to be without teeth while you are waiting for your final permanent teeth.
Care for your implants just like you do your natural teeth: by brushing twice and flossing once daily. A water pick is helpful, and it is necessary to see your dentist at least every 6 months. Take good care of them and they will take care of you!
